mindfulness and being present

By

When I heard about the new trend of “mindfulness” and “being present,” I couldn’t help but wonder, if we’re all supposed to live in the moment, does that mean we can finally stop worrying about our future and just enjoy the chaos of today? I mean, if you think about it, being present is like trying to enjoy a rollercoaster ride while it’s still going up the first hill – it’s exciting, but also a bit terrifying.

Speaking of terrifying, have you ever noticed how people seem to be more afraid of public speaking than of death itself? It’s as if we’d rather face the Grim Reaper than a room full of judgmental eyes. But maybe it’s because, deep down, we know that death is a one-time event, while public speaking could haunt us forever, like a bad meme that just won’t die.

And while we’re on the topic of things that won’t die, have you ever considered the resilience of the common houseplant? These leafy little survivors can go weeks without water, endure the harshest of indoor temperatures, and still come back looking better than ever. It’s almost as if they’re mocking us, saying, “You think your life is tough? Try being a plant in a world where people forget to water you.”

But perhaps the most impressive thing about plants is their ability to thrive in the most unexpected places. You’ll find them growing out of cracks in the sidewalk, sprouting from the roofs of abandoned buildings, and even making a home in the cup holder of your car. It’s like they’re saying, “We don’t need your fancy gardens or perfectly manicured lawns. We’ll take the world as it comes, one concrete jungle at a time.”

So the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed by the challenges of life, just remember: be like a plant. Embrace the chaos, find beauty in the cracks, and never stop growing, no matter where you find yourself planted.
